Relationship between ASAPA and SAAS
The Association of Southern African Professional Archaeologists (ASAPA) and the South African Archaeological Society (SAAS) are two separate organizations. ASAPA is a professional association with membership open only to professional archaeologists in southern Africa. SAAS is an amateur society with membership open to any interested person.
Membership to one organization does not confer membership to the other. The only area of formal relationship between the two organizations is in the publication of the South African Archaeological Bulletin (Bulletin). The journal is owned by SAAS. ASAPA, however, is contracted to edit the Bulletin. Both organizations offer subscription to the Bulletin as a benefit of membership. Because there is some overlap in the membership of the two organizations, ASAPA members who are also SAAS members will receive the Bulletin only from SAAS and receive a discount on their ASAPA membership equivalent to the cost of the Bulletin.
