TWO YEAR FIXED-TERM RESEARCH POSITION: FLORISBAD QUATERNARY RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
The National Museum, situated in Bloemfontein, in the heart of the Free State Province of South Africa, has a long and continuing research tradition. The Florisbad Quaternary Research Department is dynamic, innovative and productive in the field of Quaternary vertebrate palaeontology and archaeozoology. The Department is proud of its substantial research collections, which include modern comparative osteological materials and fossil vertebrates, mainly from the interior of southern Africa.
The current research focus includes the evolution of modern mammal faunas in southern Africa, the appearance of southern endemism, and Early - Middle Pleistocene comparisons with East Africa.
The Department seeks a dedicated and motivated individual to participate in existing research projects and to initiate new projects.
A doctorate in Quaternary Vertebrate Palaeontology or Archaeozoology.
An energetic, resourceful and flexible approach to research.
An ability to work well within a team.
A valid driverÔ??s licence.
Key Performance Areas
To undertake research and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Participation in fieldwork, curation and study of specimens generated through fieldwork and assistance in departmental projects as required.
