The South African Heritage Resources Agency is the Government agency charged under the National Heritage Resources Act of 1999 with the protection and management of South African heritage. It replaces the former National Monuments Council.

The Department of Culture (in the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture) is responsible for the Management and presentation of Cultural Heritage in Lesotho.
The key objective of the Department is to develop policies to protect, preserve, promote and disseminate the national cultural heritage through specialised programmes within the established national cultural institutions and the privately run organisations.
Morija Museum & Archives is another cultural institution charged with the responsibility of implementing the national cultural policy in collaboration with the Department of Culture.
Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) is also active in implementing the national cultural policy. They undertook all necessary measures (archaeological surveys) to promote and present, for example, the Liphofung Cultural Cave Site.

Zimbabwe
The National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe is charged with the management, protection and presentation of the heritage of Zimbabwe. It consists of four national museums, 13 site museums and 170 proclaimed historical monuments and sites.
The organisation is a government body brought into being by the National Museums and Monuments Act No. 17 of 1972 (Chapter 25/11), and falls under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is governed by a Board of Trustees and its affairs and activities are integrated and administered through the Head Office staff, based in Harare, under the control of an Executive Director.
The four museums within the organisation are:
1. The Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe
2. The Zimbabwe Museum of Human Sciences
3. The Military Museum
4. The Mutare Museum
Site museums have also been established at Domboshava, Tsindi, Mutoko, (all in the northern region), Pomongwe, World’s View, Nswatugi, Old Bulawayo, Khami (in the western region), Ziva, Utopia House (in the Easrtern Region), Great Zimbabwe (in the southern region) and Dhlodhlo and Kwekwe (in the central region).

The National Heritage Conservation Commission (NHCC) is the parastatal organisation charged under the National Heritage Conservation Commission Act of 1989 with the protection and management of Zambian heritage.
The NHCC has its head office in Heritage House in Livingstone and has four regional offices:
Northern and Luapula: offices in Kasama
Southern and Western: offices in Livingstone
Central and Eastern: offices in Lusaka
Northwestern and Copperbelt: offices in Solwezi

The National Directorate for Culture of Mozambique is the central body of the Ministry of Education and Culture with competence for directing and controlling the realization of the Government policy, programs and plans in the area of culture.
Its main tasks are:
a) To promote culture as an integral factor for social development, cultural identity, unity and education of citizens;
b) To promote the preservation and valorization of monuments, historical sites and other aspects of cultural expressions;
c) To formulate government policies and legal framework for cultural development in Mozambique, in cooperation with local and international institutions;
d) To promote an inventory and dissemination of the Mozambican cultural heritage and undertake protective measures for the protection of classified properties;
e) To stimulate community participation, public institutions and private sector in the realization of actions for cultural development.
